As part of the Food Systems Resilience Program (FSRP), this activity aims to strengthen the resilience of agricultural systems to the impacts of climate change through the sustainable restoration of natural resources in agricultural landscapes. It is part of an integrated approach to watershed management upstream of irrigated areas, combining reforestation, soil conservation, and active mobilization of local communities.
This intervention falls under component 2 of the project, entitled “Supporting the sustainable development of natural resources for resilient agricultural landscapes.” It consists of implementing a program to reforest and restore degraded land in the Atsinanana Region, within the District of Brickaville, in the Rural Commune of Mahatsara, more specifically in the Ranomainty watershed.
The activity involves reforestation operations covering a total area of 250 hectares, including site preparation, the production and planting of forest and fruit trees, and the monitoring and maintenance of the plantations. It aims to restore soil fertility, reduce erosion, improve water management, and sustainably strengthen the resilience of agricultural landscapes and local communities.
