Community governance of natural resources and promising sectors in Northern Makay

Community governance of natural resources and promising sectors in Northern Makay

As part of the Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF), the activity aims to strengthen the active and responsible participation of local communities in natural resource conservation, while promoting inclusive and sustainable community governance. It contributes to the establishment of the institutional, organisational and social foundations necessary for the effective and sustainable transfer of natural resource management in the Makay-Nord region.

The intervention focuses on strengthening local capacities, supporting the structuring of economic sectors compatible with conservation, and preserving biodiversity and ecosystems. It is consistent with CEPF's strategic objectives for participatory conservation and sustainable development.

More specifically, the activity aims to:
• Promote community-based and participatory governance of natural resources;
• Strengthen the ecological and economic resilience of local communities;
• Develop sustainable economic sectors, particularly around the promotion of Bararata (Phragmites australis) and responsible tourism.

These actions will be implemented in close partnership with the Menabe Regional Directorate for Environment and Sustainable Development (DREDD Menabe) and the Menabe Regional Tourism Office, in order to ensure effective institutional coordination and sustainable ownership by local actors.
